Web page optimization definition:
Web page optimization: changes made to a web page that improves the positioning of that page with one or more search engines
Frames:
Framed sites have their limitations as far as the search engines are concerned but lately EC developed, tested, implemented and monitored a fantastic application and use of frames within sites. There is therefore an application for it but EC prefers to use tables during the optimization of our sites.
In 2005 we moved away from the use of tables and use the latest (Casscading style sheets) CSS as it decrease the download time of pages extensively. We prefer to develop clean, quick downloading sites with one topic per page.
Static vs Active sites:
EC is working on strategies for positioning of active sites (database driven sites that gives the client full control to update content.) It does however take a lot of creative thinking, implementation and testing. There are good methods to position and optimize dynamic pages if clients work closely with us.
Pop-up and pop-under advertisements:
We do not support the use of pop-up or pop-under advertisements.
Validation of HTML code:
If there are mistakes in your HTML code, the spiders will not rank your site. We are always amazed at the amount of top-ranked sites have mistakes in their index pages.
Cross-browser compatibility:
Essential. We work towards cross-browser compatibility of Internet explorer, Netscape, Opera and FirefoxIE. Normally, if code validates properly sites also display correct across various browsers.
Download time of pages:
Should be limited to 12 seconds on a 28.8 KBPS modem. If you do not capture the attention of your visitor within 8 seconds, you lost them.
Use of graphics:
Relates to the above point - graphics are optimized to provide the pages with the least possible download time - content is King. Pictures do not sell products - information does. Search engine algorithms cannot read pictures - search engines read text.
Navigation:
Navigation is based on the architecture of the site - which is determined on the focus of the web site. "How can I get my visitor to do what I want them to do within 3 clicks?"
Web page optimization should be done correctly and the use of graphics should be limited. We believe in clean design, fast-loading web sites with sufficient search engine friendly text.
