Gold is the chosen color for the month after an 11-year-old Girl called Annie experienced the effects of childhood cancer in her own family.\u00a0Learn more about Gold in September and how you can\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/goldinseptember.com\/how-to-raise-funds-and-awareness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">get involved.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why do we support Go Gold September?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Monica&#8217;s health:<\/strong>\n<div id=\"attachment_1190\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1190\" class=\"wp-image-1190 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/e-spectations.com\/swimming\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/1_nosick-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Healthy and happy\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Health improving after 8 years!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Monica has been sick since she was 1 month old. Our memories of age 1-5 is\u00a0a haze of hospitals, tests and a sick child that ask\u00a0<em>Mom, why do I get the sick?<\/em>\u00a0At the age of 5, our pediatrician made a final diagnosis. Monica suffers from Asthma and we start treatment.\u00a0Our family is forever grateful for the current good health that Monica enjoys. \u00a0We cannot imagine what it must be like for parents to receive the news that their child has cancer. \u00a0For that reason, we want to pay it forward and show our support even if it is just creating awareness.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dedicating events at swim meets with family and friends:<\/strong><br \/>\nMonica loves to swim for a reason. \u00a0It is something she started doing at a young age &#8211; i.e. she would dedicate a race to Granny, her godparents or our friends. \u00a0Why does Monica dedicate her events?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>I love them and miss my family. \u00a0If I swim for someone special I swim faster.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swim to inspire:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 2015 Gold in September ran an awareness campaign on Facebook. \u00a0As a sign of our appreciation for Monica&#8217;s good health and in support of the families with sick children, we decided to join the campaign by creating awareness.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"KZN Junior champs 2015 - Go Gold September childhood cancer pledge\" width=\"654\" height=\"368\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VH9EtX02g88?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4><strong>What will we do in 2016 for Gold in September childhood cancer awareness?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_1210\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1210\" class=\"wp-image-1210 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/e-spectations.com\/swimming\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/gogold2016_small-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"Go gold for childhood cancer\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gold ribbons and black and gold swimsuit for childhood cancer<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Video dedicating all events at KZN Junior championships to childhood cancer awareness.<\/li>\n<li>We will give handmade gold beaded\u00a0ribbons to our swim friends at KZN Junior Champs to wear in support of Gold in September.<\/li>\n<li>We challenge our fellow swim friends to join us in support and also swim to increase\u00a0Childhood cancer awareness on 24 and 25 September 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Monica will spread the word about this project to all her friends on social media.<\/li>\n<li>Monica will swim in her Gold and black AP-12 swimsuit in support of Go Gold September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Go Gold September?
